How to Be a Culbuto in Life

Life has a way of tipping us off balance. Unexpected changes, disappointments, or challenges can push us sideways and leave us feeling wobbly. Yet, within us all, there is a capacity to return to centre — to regain our balance, just like a culbuto.
A culbuto (sometimes called a roly-poly toy) is designed so that no matter how much you push it, it always rocks back to its upright position. It doesn’t resist the movement. It doesn’t fight the push. It simply sways, and then finds its way home.
What if we could approach life in the same way?
The Wisdom of the Culbuto
The culbuto teaches us an important truth: stability is not about never falling or never moving. It’s about knowing how to return. Resilience comes not from rigidity, but from flexibility — the ability to bend, sway, and come back upright.
When life throws us off course, grounding practices allow us to find that calm centre again.
Practical Ways to “Return to Centre”
Here are a few mental wellness practices that can help us live with the spirit of a culbuto:
Grounding in the body
Take a few deep breaths and notice your feet on the ground. Your body anchors you to the present moment when your mind feels scattered.
Creating peaceful space
Whether it’s a quiet corner of your home, a walk in nature, or simply closing your eyes for a pause, give yourself environments where stillness is possible.
Reframing the wobble
Instead of judging yourself for being “off balance,” see it as part of the natural sway of life. Every wobble is an opportunity to practice finding your centre again.
Self-compassion
Like the culbuto, you don’t have to spring back instantly. Be gentle with the time it takes to regain equilibrium.
Living with Culbuto Resilience
To be a "culbuto" in life doesn’t mean we never feel stress, grief, or overwhelm. It means we trust that we can return to balance. When we cultivate a grounding practice and nurture inner peace, we develop the quiet confidence that no matter how much life tips us, we can find our way back upright.
So the next time you feel yourself wobbling, remember the culbuto. Rock, sway, breathe — and trust your return to centre.
